adamsb@cia.com.
I just bought the Logic program by EMagic. I'm using it on an IBM PS1 with a SB16
board, CASIO keyboard in and Dr. Rhythm Section, DR5 as a sound generator. I am a
guitarist, playing for two years, and have never used Midi before. I'm interested in
trading midi song files, and learning about my capabilities from more experienced
musicians.

- Experience
- I started working with MIDI in May of 1995 when I got my first sound card, but I'm a
fast learner. I had always been interested in making music but never had the means or the
funds to do it on my own. Before I really got into MIDI, I was singing in a 4 man group in
which I wrote most of the lyrics to the original songs that we sang. When we broke up, I
wanted to be able to produce myself and I found MIDI to be a most effective way of doing
so. I never learned to play an instrument so I was at a disadvantage. I had, however,
taken some music courses so I new how to enter in the rhythms and' notes I wanted starting
off with Midisoft Session Manager and later moving on to Cakewalk Pro. I have completed
enough music for an album and am currently looking for a record deal. In the mean time, I
recently received my business license to start my own production company (TouchDown
Enterprises). I'm always looking for new people to produce besides working on music for
myself.
- Hardware
- 486DX4 100Mhz Computer running Windows95; MQX-32M Midi Interface Card w/ SMPTE Lock;
Media Vision SoundCard; Boss DS330 Sound Module (Same as Roland); Yamaha MU80 Sound
Module; Alesis SR-16 Drum Machine (Controlled by computer, never use the built in rhythms
on originals); Yamaha MT4X Multitrack Recorder w/ SMPTE Lock; Yamaha AM602 Mixer (POWERFUL
little mixer for the money if you know what you're doin'); ART Effects Processor; Shure
1.0 Beta-Green Microphone; EV Microphone; Pioneer 404 Dual Cassette Deck (Great for
recording direct stereo output for a nice demo tape); Small Casio Keyboard as Controller
(Hardly ever used since I don't know how to play... I'd like to learn though.);
- Software
- I use Cakewalk Pro (the most powerful in my opinion) as the sequencer for my manually
entered notes. I use CanvasMan (Thank God for it) as a librarian for my Boss DS-330. I
sometimes use XGEDIT for my Yamaha MU-80. I use Goldwave as a sampler and sequence the
*.wav files with cakewalk. Pretty good audio compression.
- Other Info
- Like I said, I learn pretty fast and I think I've come pretty far for 9 months of
intensive self-taught MIDI. In learning, the following books were great resources and I'd
recommend them to anyone: MIDI for the Professional (You should read this after you're
comfortable with General MIDI) & The Musicians Home Studio. I've got lots of original
music and lyrics... many I will use myself and some that I would like others to sing. I'm
always on the look out for new talent so get in touch with me. After all, right now,
Atlanta is the place to be for music.
