Is it possible to have MIDI without a computer?  They tell me that it is but, in this day and age of great music software and powerful computers I cannot imagine any music teacher, arranger, copyist, composer or performing musician not having a computer connected to their MIDI system.  I hope you will forgive me for using the term musician broadly. To me, anyone who can do something creative with music is a musician.

Since I am not a musician so I'm not sure what this page should become.  I think it should have information about MIDI instruments and software packages you might find interesting.  For now, I will provide you with links to other musicians Web pages and to MIDI instrument manufactures and MIDI software publishers. As a "techie" I also think that information how to read a MIDI implementation chart might be of helpful to you before you go out and buy that MIDI keyboard. Please tell me what else you would like to see.

MIDI Hardware

Music Machines is a good source of information on electronic music and instruments. Anyone in the market for a synthesizer should stop here first.

I have an Ensoniq EPS.  Is it possible I was influenced by my Apple II gs? So for starters, here is a link that has lots of stuff for Ensoniq users.

Ensoniq Resources on the Internet

Click here ->

SYNTH ZONE - Midi resources & synthesizer sounds list  This is a well organized site with links to all kinds of information about all kinds of synths including keyboards, sound cards and virtual (software) synths.

I had a Yamaha keyboard for a while. If you are a Yamaha user you may want to check out their site at Yamaha UK.

Musical Resources

I'm not quite sure were this link belongs. Midi's Musicsheets has some excellent classical MIDI sequences plus what appears to be scans of sheet music.
The Silvis Woodshed   is a site for those of you who need MIDI choir music for practice. It also has a page for using MIDI with a Macintosh and another page with the same thing for Windows.

MIDI Software

Yamaha has extended General MIDI with XG just like Roland has with GS. If you have a Yamaha XG or Roland GS product you should check out Mike's GS - XG - AWE MIDI Page it has lots of freeware and software available.

Graphire publishes Music Press, an excellent but expensive music notation program that is available for the Macintosh.

Coda Music Technology publishes music software such as Finale. An excellent music notation program which can help you to put your music on paper there are MAC and Windows versions..

Score is the oldest music notation program I know about. It does not have a graphical interface and it runs under DOS. It is still available because of it's ability to create precise notation. The Windows version will be available sometime.

If you are interested in notation software you may want to check out New Notations Home for more information on Finale and Score.

SoundTrek publishes the JAMMER a software program for composing music.

Some people tell me that Band in a Box from PG Music is the software to have.

Passport Designs is the publisher of Mastertracks Pro, Encore and several other Music software titles.

The Cakewalk Home Page will be of interest to users (or prospective users) of the Cakewalk sequencing program for PC's

I don't know much about Cubase but it seems to be getting very popular judging from the number of people on the contact list who say they are using using it and it is getting many good reviews. For comparisons to Cakewalk read this review.

MIDI musicians and other people with musical talent on the Web

Betty's MIDI Page is an excellent MIDI page with lots of MIDI information and links to other MIDI resources.
The Dog's Music Box  is the page of another MIDI musician. Check out Charles Bushell's contact information to see if this page might interest you.
Kom'en In'trist  this is not a MIDI page but check out Kyle T Whitlock's contact information to see if this page might interest you.

Other Resources for Musicians

www.cadenza.org
Visit Cadenza - resources for classical and contemporary musicians

This site has come a long way since we first visited it several months ago. I especially like it's international Musician's Directory that allow you to add your own listings. It also has a international Concert listing.

Cadenza is a site for contemporary and classical music. You can submit your free advert to the Musicians' Directory, follow links to other music sites or read (or add to) the Concert Diary.
