Other MIDI 'Net Resources

There is a plethora of MIDI information on the internet, with more appearing almost daily. Here are some WWW pages, FTP sites, and newsgroups you'll want to check out. In addition, see the link to the list at the end of this page which lists many more resources you can check out. Be sure to also check out the Twin Cities MIDI Files Page for links to some great downloadable MIDI file site.

The Synthesizer and Midi Links Page is a excellent commented list of links to information on MIDI and electronic music.

MIDI Resources for Teachers is a list of MIDI sites that should be of interest to music teachers. It was put together by Cynthia Shirk at Mankato Public Schools..Mankato, Minnesota.

Sound and Music on the Web Page is an excelent tutorial on how to add music to your web page. It is part of an equally impresive on line tutorial called Building Your Home on the Web provided by Spectrum Virtual University.

The MIDI Home Page is a good source of information about MIDI. It includes some beginners information, MIDI specs, and other useful stuff.

The MIDI Farm is a good MIDI site, providing general MIDI information, keyboard info, etc.

Music Machines is a good source of information on electronic music and instruments. Anyone in the market for a synthesizer should stop here first.

Randy Wilson's Computer Music Homepage contains links to other MIDI and music related pages.

MIDI Resources, part of the Harmony Central Music page, contains links by category.

Doctor Audio is a dealer for all major MIDI software manufacturers, most major PC and Mac based Hard Disk recording hardware and software, and for many Pro Audio products. They also have links to many other professional and other sites on the Web.

The Columbus MIDI Users Group is a Columbus, Ohio organization who holds meetings every other month and have had air time on a local radio station.

Creative Zone takes you to Creative Labs site. They are the makes of SoundBlaster Sound Cards.

At the Turtle Beach Home Page you can find information on the Turtle Beach sound card.

Musitek Web Site publishes MIDISCAN which allows you create MIDI files from sheet music using a scanner.

John Moore has created an excellent MIDI link page and other music related pages that you can visit at http://www.ao.net/~jmo/john/music/muslinks.html.

While not exactly a MIDI site Charley Wyser's Piano and Keyboard Connection is a Twin Cities Web site that offers keyboard and piano lessons.

Yamaha has extended General MIDI with XG just like Roland has with GS. I don't like the idea of seeing GM heading off in 2 directions but if you have a Yamaha XG or Roland GS product you should check out Mike's GS - XG - AWE MIDI Page it has lots of freeware and software available.

zZounds Music Discovery Center has general information on MIDI, music and computers and sound synthesis, and also offers great deals on lines including Roland, Alesis, Korg,Yamaha, EMU, Event, AKAI and more. Mail Subscribe to info@zZound.com to get on their e-mail list. They also provide free Web sites to musicians and the like.

Another site to check out is The MidiWeb The MidiWeb™  It has an excellent tech corner and a good article about MIDI for beginners.

Newsgroups

alt.music.midi, the official newsgroup for MIDI talk.

comp.music, was created for computer music researchers, but you'll also find a lot of general MIDI talk (and General MIDI talk ;-) ) here.

rec.music.makers.synth caters toward the synthesizer and keyboard player.
