I have played in various TC (rock) bands for 20 years, but currently consider music an expensive hobby (what musicians don't?!?). Co-host an open acoustic jam and play/record occassionally with friends at parties and bars. Often perform as 1- or 2-man band (bass, guitar, vocals) with MIDI bass/keys/drums. Great application for MIDI!

I´ve studied 3 years in Music Conservatory Josè Marìa Rodriguez (Cuenca-Ecuador), I began with MIDI (Midisoft Recording Session) when I tried to sequencing my compositions (3 years ago). earlier sequencies was not good, because was very difficult transcript short duration notes, bends, controllers, etc. but after some time it became easier. I´m a bassist (since 10 years ago)and now I´m playing in a progressive metal band ¨Carpe Diem¨ and MIDI makes easy to learn my songparts of the songs of my bandmates, and I can make new arrangements of those songs. Also I can share my songs with them. I`m always searching for MIDI file of progressive bands, If you have some like Dream Theater, Fates Warning, Rush, Genesis, ELP, King Crimson, contact at the e-mail addres of above. Thanks!!

Hopefully!!

I have just started the process of trying to create my own home studio. I have been running into a few obstacles along the way, and I would appreciate any help I could get regarding. So here is my problem: I was given a yamaha psr 36 keyboard in which I was hoping to use as a midi controller with either my encore or sibelius music writing programs. I cannot get any response using the keyboard as the controller. My sound card is an ensoniq audio pci. I also cannot find how to download the appropriate driver to achieve this task. This is what I was told to try to do, and I do not know if this is even the way to do this! HELP

I have been composing unfinished songs on piano and guitar for many years. I started putting stuff down as midi files in 1993. Some sound OK! I am more interested in trying out musical ideas than getting bogged down with technology (but want to progress to combined audio and MIDI recording and need advice).

It all started with my sister playing the piano. And what my sister could do, so should I (I think I was 8 years old or something, so don't blame it on me!). But after a full year of lessons I gave up. It wasn't my thing. Not at all. But in the meanwhile my interest grew for synthesizer music from Jean-Michel Jarre to Vangelis, and from Tangerine Dream to Kraftwerk. The out-of-this-world soundscapes triggered something within and I started screwing around with my good old Commodore-64. And this I can tell you was my kind-a-thing. The years went by and my interest kept growing. I bought my first real synthesizer from my own saved money (it was a Korg 700S for $40!) and I never stopped buying second hand gear from that time on. I'm hooked! I made some bucks componing music for instruction-movies and all the money went straight back into new gear. I went to the School of Arts, got my degree and started working in the biggest studio in my country as a mastering engineer. But still I am tweeking the buttons (and I am 29 now...) on my beloved synths. Making dance-music or just some sounds to be used in later productions. I'm a freak. An analogue freak...
Hardware:
EMS VCS-3 (The Putney), Mellotron M-400, Sequential Circuits Prophet-10 and Prophet VS, Arp Avatar and Sequencer, Elka Synthex (x2), Moog MiniMoog and Prodigy, OSC OSCar, Linn Drum, Roland VP-330 Vocoder Plus, MKS-80 Super Jupiter, MKS-70 Super JX and JD-990 Super JD, Oberheim OB-Mx, Bit-99, Clavia Nordrack, Waldor MicroWave II and Pulse, Marion MSR-2, Akai AX-73 and S-3000, Rhodes MK I Seventy-Three, Yamaha SY-99 and FVX-1, Korg Mono/Poly, Polysix and last but not least the 700S.
Software:
Cubase VST/32 5.0, Soundforge 5.0, Sounddiver 3.0 and many other software-tools, but these three are ones the most used.
Other Info:
If there are any other analogue freaks out there like me, maybe it's a nice thought to share some info, experiences, sounds and manuals (because they're often hard to get).
